Church Gresley Infant and Nursery School, Swadlincote

Project Overview

Client: Church Gresley Infant and Nursey School, Swadlincote

Location: Swadlincote

Architect: Derbyshire County Council

Contractor: Wates Construction Ltd

Value: £225,000

Programme: 13 weeks

Description: To install 1700m2 of VCL, 3800m2 of 100mm Xtratherm rigid insulation boards, 1700m2 of 18mm hardwood faced ply and then 0.4mm Ugitop stainless steel to 6no roofs of a new build school including fascias, soffits, gutters and rain water pipes.

With the project starting in February, obviously the weather played a big part with the progress of the works not only for CEL on the roofs but also for all the other trades. Weekly progress meetings are held along with daily 'start right' meetings which our on-site supervisor attends.

Working closely with Wates and attending many seminars before arriving on site gave CEL a good understanding of how the site was going to be run and what was expected of all contractors working on the site. A quality plan was drawn up and submitted along with the usual R&M's and health and safety policy etc. As on all of our sites a weekly site report is produced and submitted to the main contractor, on top of this a monthly site safety audit is carried out by a CEL contracts or operations manager. Weekly toolbox talks are held along with regular reviews of the R&M's, operatives on site are also encouraged to fill out and hand in 'near miss cards' to alert site management of any possible dangers on site.

Working on a site close to an existing school and in the middle of a housing estate comes with it's restrictions; deliveries have to be booked in between certain times and parking near the site has to be done with the residents in mind, also working times are restricted due to the location.

The project is still on-going.
